Why Cheap SEO is Bad SEO

Today I had the unpleasant experience of losing a prospective SEO client. Now, I would be understanding if it were lost to another reputable SEO company, with a comparably good service, and perhaps even a similar fee structure. However, it was to a web designer who claimed that they could “get them high rankings” within a few weeks (gulp!) by adding a few keywords to the site, and it would cost less than 10% of my estimate. Beware of pseudo SEO companies!

SEO is more or less the hot trend in online marketing right now. Businesses are now realizing that any money spent on a website is wasted if you don’t get traffic and business from it. Of course, the greatest sources of web traffic are the major search engines, and you need to be ranked high enough to be able to grab some of that traffic. This is the basic concept behind SEO (short for Search Engine Optimization).

There are two serious issues with SEO that are resulting in a lot of companies being burned on poor or fake SEO services. Considering these issues will enable you to understand how to evaluate an SEO company. (more…)

Tips for paid bloggers - from an advertiser

I’ve been paying bloggers to review products/services now for almost a year. I’ve also written the occasional sponsored post myself. I’ve used some of the popular platforms, such as PayPerPost and Linkworth, and I’ve contacted bloggers individually. Some reviews have been great ‘link juice’, they’ve brought traffic and leads, generated buzz, and even aided search ranking positions! Others, however, have been utter crap, and it’s quite obvious that some bloggers are just out to make a quick buck.

Because of those bloggers, I’ve put together a list of my annoyances as an advertiser. These are not rules, you can do what you want, if you feel like taking the money and putting forth a minimal amount of effort, then that’s your prerogative. However, taking these suggestions will add quality and value to your blog, which of course will benefit in long run. You’ll receive better feedback/rating/tack from the advertiser, and in turn you’ll qualify for more and better posting opportunities in the future. You’ll also maintain greater relevancy on your blog, which search engines will reward with more traffic, and this of course makes you more valuable to advertisers.

OK, enough said, on with the tips… (more…)

How to Make a “Sticky” Web Site with Web Forums

Internet is all about communication between people. Those people belong to some groups. People with similar interests form groups where they are able to discuss about their area of interest, to help each other and to learn more about other members. One of the most used ways for communication between like-minded people are web forums. How this can help to your business?
In order to have success on the Internet you have to have repeat visits. In order to people visit your site on a regular basis you have to constantly make your content fresh, to make regular updates. You can post articles relevant to your business, you can post the latest industry news and you can have a web forum.
One of the main advantages of web forums over before mentioned techniques for having a “sticky” web site is that after some time, web forums are “self going”, at least in some way. In other words, you won’t have to spend your time in creating fresh content – your forum members will do that instead of you! This doesn’t mean that you won’t have to do anything. Depending on the size of the forum, there are people called moderators who [...]

Golden Rules for Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Search engines are hot topic. Google has great financial reports every quarter. Google is the most used search engine and if you want to use the power of search engines and to have success on the Internet you have to do your search engine optimization (SEO) wisely. We will give you several tips that will help you in making better SEO campaigns.

Rule #1 – Quality content

You probably know about that “Content Is King” rule. It is especially true for SEO. Try to have relevant and quality content, at least 400 words per page. Search engines love lengthy articles. You web site should be up-to-date, articles and news have to be added on a regular basis, at least once a week. This will show to search engines that your web site is an ongoing project and not some “let’s make a web site for Adsense” schemes. Make your content relevant to your target audience, use appropriate keywords but don’t make a mistake and do keyword stuffing. Keyword stuffing is when someone intentionally includes many keywords and repeats them many times in the article hoping to achieve better search engine placement. Search engines are machines but they are not naïve, and they are getting “smarter” every day. Your keywords need to have the most appropriate keyword density. You won’t be able to know the right keyword density because search engines often change their rules. Several great resources and software can help you to choose the right keyword density and to be up-to-date with search engine trends.

Links are the next most important rule in making a successful search engine optimization. Many search engines give very much weight to number of web sites that have links to your web site. It is especially case with Google, the most important search engine, that use their proprietary technology called PageRank that ranks web sites by counting number of links it has on other web sites. However, quantity is not the most important thing. You should have quality links. So, Google will give you better PageRank (PR) if you have links on web sites with higher PR. They assume that if quality sites link to your web site that your site is quality, as well. ThatÂ’s why you should make ad swaps with quality web sites that focus on similar audience like your web site. Please be aware that linking between sites that are on the same server (IP address) wonÂ’t bring you benefit in increasing your PR. To check your link popularity type site:www.yourdomainname.com in Google search bar and you will get list of sites that have links to your web site. Also you can use a free service at:

Rule #3 – Meta Tags

Meta tags give different information about your web site. The most used Meta tags are for title, keywords and description. Meta tags are placed between tag in your HTML document. It is very important to give good page titles, description and keywords for every page on your web site. It doesnÂ’t have to be too short, but also it doesnÂ’t have to be too lengthy. Between tag you will write title of your HTML document. Title shouldnÂ’t be longer than 70 characters. Choose it very wisely. After that you can include different Meta tags. We will give you several most used Meta tags:

Also, you can place a Meta tag that will give info about you or the author of your web site.

Those 3 rules are the most important rules in search engine optimization. Also there are other rules that we will only mention like to use a so called ALT tags to give description to your images, donÂ’t use database-driven links (make them search engine friendly) and donÂ’t use frames in designing your web site. Also, it is highly recommended to submit your web site to Open Directory Project web site (http://www.dmoz.org). It takes time to be indexed there but it is useful because it will help you in better search engine placement and many sites use Open Directory Project database on their web sites.
